UC San Diego is an academic powerhouse and economic engine, recognized as one of the top 10 public universities by U.S. News & World Report and ranked number one in the nation for public service by the Washington Monthly. Our location is unparalleled, our impact unmistakable. UC San Diego shapes minds, changes lives, launches industries and builds the future...one student, one discovery and one achievement at a time.
Graduate students are critical for the continued success and growth of the university. In fact, the graduate student population is projected to grow over the next decade and the Graduate Division is committed to promoting graduate opportunities to diverse and well qualified applicants.
Building on an existing relationship with Howard University, the UC San Diego - Howard University Partnership for Graduate Success program is aimed at increasing the number of African American applicants to UC San Diego graduate programs. The UC San Diego Howard University Partnership program leverages the Summer Training Academy for Research Success (STARS) program to provide a mentored summer research experience for up to 10 Howard students for eight weeks each year. Students will participate in additional events throughout the academic year, including scientific talks with UC San Diego faculty and Bouchet Graduate Honor Society Fellows.
The Partnership will play a key role in building a strong and lasting connection between two excellent institutions of higher education, Howard University and UC San Diego.
